Friars Sports.com Ceases Publishing

November 15, 2008

Friars Sports.com will cease publishing at the end of the fall season. Tough economic times, along with a lack of commitment from coaches, make this venture impossible to continue. We wish the entire St. Anthony’s community all the best in the future. Go Friars!

Suspensions Begin

September 23, 2008

Administrators at both St. Anthony’s and St. John the Baptist have metted out punishment in response to Thursday’s melee at end of the Friars’ 2-1 win in boys soccer. St. Anthony’s athletic director Don Buckley told Newsday that three players will sit out Tuesday’s CHSAA game against St. Mary’s. He declined to elaborate on any further sanctions. Buckley did indicate that administratotrs met with the varsity, junior varsity and freshmen boys soccer programs to reinforce that similiar behaviour won’t be tolerated in the future.

Oneonta Bound

September 18, 2008

The St. Anthony’s boys and girls soccer teams hit the road after school on Friday bound for Oneonta. Each will take separate buses and even stay in different hotels, according the boys coach Gene Buonaiuto. But the goal is the same — to win at the National Soccer Hall of Fame Tournament. The Friars boys soccer team went 2-0 a year ago in Oneonta. The schedule is no less challenging this time around with a Saturday 9 a.m. game against Vestal and Sunday 11 a.m. against Rochester-McQuaid.
